Day One: Monthly Letter

Barbara Bretton February, 2001

I don't need Punxsutawney Phil to tell me that there's still plenty of winter left to enjoy here in central New Jersey. I'm one of those odd ducks who actually love cold, snowy, blustery weather. It's probably my Swedish blood answering the call of the plummeting thermometer, but I am never happier than I am when the weather outside is downright frightful. I wish my Grandma Lil -- who was born and raised in Uppsala, Sweden -- was still around so I could compare notes. She brought very little with her when she left Sweden to join her father and brothers in New York City, just a few dresses and a wooden plaque that hangs today on the wall of our den.

People complain about February but it's one of my favorite months. It's short, it's snowy, and it features a day dedicated to love, romance, and chocolate. What's not to like? If you like chocolate (and who doesn't) make sure you check out this month's contest. It won't do anything for your waistline but I guarantee it will put a smile on your face.

And one more thing: I've had such a great time with my Writers Daily Quote mailing list, that I've decided to launch another one. He Said She Said will feature one terrific quote every day on a subject dear to our hearts: Love. You can read more about it by clicking here. If you'd like to join, all you have to do is scroll down and sign up. I'd love to have you join us.

Wishing you a mailbox filled with Secret Valentine's,
