Day One: Monthly Letter

March 1, 2000

The Great Office Makeover continues here in central New Jersey. I wish I could tell you that I've made enormous progress at taming the paper tiger but I'm beginning to think it's a losing battle. Remember the old Star Trek episode, The Trouble with Tribbles? Tribbles were furry, adorable little creatures who seemed to reproduce at will. That should give you some idea of what's been going on inside my file cabinets.

It doesn't help that I keep bouncing from project to project. I've been making a real effort to catch up on my mail. I'm ashamed to tell you how old some of the unanswered letters were. I wrote a lovely note of apology to one of my correspondents and was quite surprised to receive the following note in response: "Who the hell are you and why are you writing to me?"

I think there's a lesson to be learned there . . .

We're doing the final edits on my next book right now and although my body is here in NJ, my heart is up in Maine with Gracie and Noah, the star-crossed lovers you'll meet when At Last hits the bookstores in November. I cried my way through the last chapter, which is exactly what I hope you'll do when you read it. We'll be posting excerpts in the next few months so please stay tuned.

Have you taken a look yet at Writers Daily Quotes? They're a labor of love for me. I've collected quotes since I was in my teens and I thoroughly enjoy sharing my bounty with subscribers. I hope you'll give Writers Daily a try. Click on the Writers Daily Quotes burst on the home page and follow the instructions. If you have any trouble, just give me a yell at barbara@barbarabretton.com and I'll lend a hand.

We'll be running a new contest beginning April 1st. Make sure you check back for details. I promise you won't be disappointed.

Wishing you an early spring,
