Beyond The Mist is the story of a little girl named Daphne who learns very early in life that the world is not always fair. But she also proves that it is possible to survive neglect, cruelty, heartbreak, and even outright abuse--with your morals and dignity intact, and that there is indeed life "beyond the mist."

Although the names have been changed, Daphne's story is based on true events. It is the actual childhood experience of the author, Elsie M. Neal, who was born June 22, 1910, in Slayden, Tennessee. Her original name was Clella Lee Jones.

Today, at age 88, Elsie lives in Smithfille, Tennessee. She raised four children and how has thirteen grandchildren and a rapidly growing number of great-grandchildren. She enjoys writing, sewing, and community volunteer work.
